“This is our second year at Hidden Woods and we certainly hope not the last! We’ve enjoyed the most wonderful weekend with 3 other families, connecting with each other and with some beautiful woodlands. Steve and Barney were terrific hosts – so clever how they watch the children and then help them learn new things and skills in the woods. Thank you!”

“I just wanted to write to thank you so much for laying on such a wonderful experience for Jamie and Edward and their friends on Sunday. The concept is fabulous, but most of all you were both wonderful with the children, and we couldn’t have asked for more.

Jamie and Edward are both thrilled with their beetles and their saplings and hopefully these will provide them with memories for many years to come. All the other children seemed to have a terrific time too. There has been lots of talk about it in the playground – remembering the mud kitchen, the treasure hunt, marshmallows on the fire etc.”

“Thank you so much for the fabulous birthday party you put on for George’s 6th birthday. I have heard nothing but excitement and appreciation from all of the parents and children who attended and, perhaps most importantly of all, George had a wonderful time. Barney was a brilliant facilitator and his calm enthusiastic manner set all the children at ease straight away and as organisers (or herders!) made our lives really simple when it came to providing food etc. We hope you get many more party bookings from George’s friends in the future and promise to spread the positive word regarding Hidden Woods.”

“The location is a gem of a woodland space, and the sense of freedom the children have within the held space is fantastic, enabling them to explore independently (and supervised) with so many choices of messy and inspirational fun. Barney and Steve’s friendly, welcoming and positive approach, are a fantastic role model for the children. Samuel’s confidence, to roam free and to act like he is part of the group happened right from the start, this was really due to B & S’s way of asking to “see his eyes” and reflecting back to him how much they had enjoyed his company. We feel so grateful to be able to attend. Thank you so much.”

“Just wanted to say thank you, and please can you pass on to Barney, for a terrific party on Saturday. We have done 10 birthday parties and it was easily the best so far! Isaac loved it.

“We had a wonderful time at Hidden Woods today and I was wondering if you’d be kind enough to pass our thanks on to Barney. The boys all responded brilliantly to his calm, kind and focused manner and loved whittling their sticks! They also made some great dens and got extremely muddy! All in all a fab day. Such a relief to walk away from a child’s party refreshed and engergised instead of the usual feeling of being on my knees. Well done Barney!”

“I just wanted to say a really BIG thank you for a wonderful birthday party for Nicholas on Sunday!!!! The children all had an amazing time and I have had nothing but extremely positive feedback from all the parents, so you might even get a couple of parties booked as a result. The mud kitchen was definitely the highlight for most of the children and they were still talking about it in class yesterday! It is such a brilliant idea – I loved making “mud pies” as a child – such a simple idea but so effective! Barney was wonderful with the children, please thank him as well as Lys. I am sure Barney will remember the “Fred the Toad” song for a while!!!”

“A very big thank you for all yours and Julie’s efforts yesterday. Emily had a fantastic time, as did all the rest of her friends. I definitely think her 10th Birthday party memories will stay with her for a long time to come.

“We go to Saplings every week and my 3 year old, 1 year old and I absolutely love it! It’s our highlight of the week. They always sleep well on a Hidden Woods day and it feels great knowing they are getting fresh air and exercise, experiencing new things and being close to nature. It is really friendly and very relaxed. There’s always an activity for those who want to join in. We’ve made clay forest dinosaurs, bird feeders, wood hanging planes, witches broomsticks, willow spider webs to name a few. If your children just want to run free range in the woods or play on mud mountain or in the mud kitchen that’s fine as well. Sometimes there’s a hammock, rope swing and wheelbarrow rides which mine love and sometimes we play by the little stream. It’s worth every penny and the weather never seems to matter as there is a big shelter so there is always somewhere warm and dry to sit by the fire. It’s just as much fun in the rain! There is also a very posh compost loo as well!
At snack time we all bring something to share and hot drinks and hot chocolate are provided. Sometimes we toast marshmallows. There’s a fab sing song round the fire before home time. Can’t recommend it highly enough.”

“Just a note to thank you and Barney for a fantastic afternoon on Saturday for Rory and his friends.

It was undoubtedly one of the best activities we’ve arranged for a birthday party and Rory loved it. As parents we can also say it was one of the most relaxed ones we’ve been at, Barney did a brilliant job looking after and engaging with the children. It was also great to see how all the children loved taking part, despite being such a diverse bunch of characters.

We’ve already had lots of positive feedback from other parents, relayed from their children about what a great time they had, including one whose daughter is insisting she now goes camping for the first time!

All in the all it was the perfect event and I’m sure others will follow in our footsteps now the word is out.”

“Hi Steve and Barney, just to say thanks again for a wonderful party yesterday.  All the boys absolutely loved it, and I don’t think I’ve ever felt so relaxed at one of my children’s parties!”

“Nathaniel has completed his first term of Monday Forest school with Steve and Barney. I can honestly say he literally comes home glowing. He is covered in mud but wide eyed and so excited about all he has experienced during his adventurous day learning in the woods.  He considers Barney and Steve his ‘grown up friends’ and we can see they have increased his confidence and self esteem. His Forest School day has made him far more focused at school on his other four conventional school days.”
Jo (Term Time Forest School)

Just wanted to say what a wonderful day / party we all had. We thought it was absolutely fabulous and the feedback from others was amazing. Even people who didn’t go have been raving about it! I really hope we can do more things with you in the future.”

” just wanted to say a big thank you to both you and Barney for such a great morning in the woods. I’ve never seen Arthur attach himself so quickly to anyone before like he did with both of you today and he clearly enjoyed himself and was so worn out he’s still in the car asleep – something else I’d like to thank you for! Can’t wait for next time, thanks again”

“For a fathers day my wife treated my 6 year old and I to an overnight camp experience at Hidden Woods. Steve and his team of experts taught us how to create and build shelters, start fires without a lighter or match, tie knots, understand more about nature and what you find underneath the forest canopy.  The upside down pizzas and Barney’s cooked breakfast was delicious.  The music storytelling by the camp fire rounded off a pretty perfect day. We loved it”

“I just wanted to write and say thank you for such a brilliant day on Friday! Your delivery was so in-tune with the ethos of our project and it was a really complementary experience to the work we have been doing. Despite the weather (which wasn’t too bad really!) the children really enjoyed it and were so inspired by being in nature.”

“Our ‘Wilderness Day’ was embraced by pupils and staff alike. Pupils learned about themselves. They learned about their new form-mates. Tutees got to know their tutor more intensely and the tutors gained precious insights into each individual in their form. So many students genuinely wanted to spend more time in the woods when the day was over. So many wanted to stay the night. Having invited the Head of Middle School and the Deputy Head to accompany us, I knew that the day would be subject to close scrutiny, but they were hugely impressed. Even the most confirmed townie amongst the pupils was challenged, charmed and cheered by a day immersed in nature”
