Meet the Team
Originally from the Bath area, in 2002 Steve left a successful career in event management in order to pursue his passion for the great outdoors, with a view to eventually combining the two. Since then he has qualified and worked in a wide range of adventure activities, including mountaineering, expedition leadership and bushcraft.
Having returned to Bath with his young family in 2011 in order to develop Hidden Woods, his goal is to provide similar opportunities to those which were so formative in his own childhood – getting muddy, climbing trees, learning about the natural world around us and all the opportunities and surprises it presents.
Steve is a Level 3 Forest School leader with enhanced CRB disclosure and numerous outdoor leadership and First Aid qualifications. He is supported by a highly experienced team of outdoor practitioners, Forest School leaders and play workers, whose combined skills enable us to deliver exceptional events at our truly stunning woodland camp.
Barney has been a key member of the Hidden Woods team from the very beginning. He has many years’ experience working within a variety of settings for a number of local organisations, gaining a legendary status amongst local children and their parents in the process. His sense of humour, communication style and knowledge of the natural world make him a fascinating person to spend time with and to learn from.
Barney is a Level 3 Play leader with enhanced CRB disclosure. He also has training and qualifications in Outdoor Paediatric First Aid, Basic Food Hygiene, Inclusion, Challenging Behaviour, Green Woodwork and Bushcraft. As Hidden Woods continues to grow, he is committed to offering inspiring opportunities in this beautiful woodland environment.
Steve loves sharing his enthusiasm for the great outdoors with young people. Steve is a Level 3 Forest School leader with enhanced DBS disclosure, he is also a qualified science teacher with almost 20 years of experience and has significant experience of working with young people with challenging behaviour. He also has training and qualifications in First Aid and is an Archery GB Archery Leader.
Joe grew up just a stone’s throw from Hidden Woods, spending his childhood climbing trees, making dens and riding his bike all around the area. These early outdoor experiences developed a love for the natural world within him, which he is passionate about sharing with others. His tree climbing days are far from over though – when he’s not leading groups at Hidden Woods, Joe is a climbing tree surgeon. Known as ‘Funny Joey’ by many children, Joe is a qualified Level 3 Bushcraft Practitioner with Outdoor First Aid and Enhanced DBS disclosure.
Julia is a Level 3 Forest School leader and outdoor learning practitioner based in Bath. Committed to creative child-led play and learning, Julia is experienced in working with children of all ages and abilities and has experience of working with SEN and challenging behaviour. Julia is First Aid trained and has enhanced DBS disclosure.
